Excelsior Tennis Club opens the Bristol County open with 32 singles entries and 10 doubles. Play starts 10 am at Silver Creek courts tomorrow with a 2 to 6 pm break for a Denser League match against Athboro.
The Bristol Yacht Club schedules an open regatta to Tocheted on Saturday July 17 with 11 classes including KO and Star. The course spans about 9 to 10 nautical miles between the club house and designated marks. The event features committee chairman Howard W Church and members Phoup DeWolf Charles Warren Lippitt Winthrop DeWolf Jr Wallis Howe and Charles FO Trowbridge along with ushers and tea entertainment.
Bristols community playgrounds open Wednesday on the common and Callan lot south of Bas MView avenue under George O Brien with assistants Common Erasmo Mancini and Miss M Theresa Sullivan Callan Playground George RO Bish and Miss M rion Jeane The playground hours run 10 am to noon 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm George MacDonald in charge of the community bath house at the root of Burton street assisted by John Scanlon Hours 9:30 am to 7:30 pm Savings tests swimming events and athletic badge tests will be held during the season under the Playground Association of America.
The State Board of Public Roads suspended the license of John Henry Thompson after a Tiverton incident on Main Road. Capt John H Harwood of the State Police advocated the suspension citing Henrys speeding up to block a passing vehicle, a practice the board labels improper use of a motor vehicle.
The Bristol council delayed bids on patching and sealing seven streets and on scarifying grading and surfacing 13 more. It approved coal delivery contracts for fire stations and the Burnside Memorial building, raised janitor salaries, named drivers for a new truck, and discussed rebuilding State street with limited funds remaining. Officials also requested state road cooperation on street corners and scheduled muzzling dogs from July 25 to Sept 1. A list of grand and petit jurors was drawn for upcoming terms.
