Kingsmen Enter National Jr Drum Corps Contest in New York
The Kearney Post Junior Drum and Bugle Corps known as The Kingsmen have entered the national junior drum corps competition at the American Legion National Convention in New York City in August. Adjutant George R. Fish said the team will travel with $750 needed for travel and hotel from August 23 to 27, 1952, with funds raised via a County Fair August 4-9 and other drives. The corps has spent over $1,000 on uniforms and $950 on instruments.

The Bristol fire department’s handtub Defiance won the 4th of July muster with a 231 foot squirt earning $333. Oko of Marblehead placed second at 229 feet eight and three quarters inches. Bristol Veterans Council moved to recruit observers to staff a round the clock airplane spotting post at the R. L Veterans Home starting July 14. Civil Defense Director Gordon L. Fleming said 168 observers are needed, each serving a two hour shift weekly, with volunteers from veterans groups Boy Scouts and the community.
