Bristol Town Solictor rules on church land tax exemption
Town Solicitor Joseph Hammill told the Bristol Town Council that land held by the Congregational Church is owned by the town and exempt from taxation. He cited a 1694 deed transferring the land to Bristol inhabitants for church use and said an illegal 1921 assessment was issued. The council will notify assessors and convene a meeting with utility officials to address highway opening practices and road restoration requirements.
