Beautiful weather drew crowds over 55 000 to Bristol for Independence Day observances. A 12 division parade and the New England States Veteran Firemen's League muster on the common dominated the day. Louis Conti aged 15 of 72 Constitution Street suffered second and third degree burns when a salute exploded in his hand Saturday night. He was treated by Dr. Joseph Seabra. The following day Michael Martinelli aged 12 of Johnston lost two fingers and part of the thumb of his left hand when a firecracker exploded at a relative’s home on Hope Street. He received first aid from Dr. Samuel D. Clark and was rushed to R I Hospital by Colt ambulance.
The ancient Poor Farm. wooden section, burned to the ground as the July parade neared. Fire Chief Oscar A. Rishe said the blaze was incendiary, set five times within nine hours. Town planned demolition this summer amid long‑standing hazards.
Three fire companies were misdirected after a mistaken call about a fire at 32 Dimond Avenue. The real blaze on Hopeworth Avenue drew crews who arrived via a diverted route, with Hydraulion Company fighting the fire while a King Phillip Avenue dump occupied others. Operator Rishe urged calling a general alarm for real fires and noted minor damage from the mix up.

The forty foot craft cost about 15 000 dollars each with deliveries split between Boston at 14 697 dollars and Mare Island Naval Yard in San Francisco at 16 397 dollars. Town, a former Bristol resident, has long been with the Herreghof Mfg. Co.
The Kingsmen and corps members competed at Jamestown on Sunday taking multiple prizes. Drum Major Ame Dee Dallaire earned first place in his Drum Major category while the corps color guard also placed high, contributing to a strong team performance.
