Fine Celebration of Fourth in Bristol Parades and Fireworks
Bristol staged a robust Independence Day program featuring a long military parade led by Chief Marshal James F Lavander and staff, a Putnam destroyer offshore, baseball games, band concerts, Hope Street exercises, and a grand fireworks display. Thousands attended as out of town motorists joined locals. Governor Aram J Pothier and U S Senator Gerry watched from the reviewing stand. The event concluded with a Band concert, a victory of patriotic oratory by Leo M Harlow and a polished Deklaration reading by Hazel Hoyle, followed by a chorus of The Star Spangled Banner.
