In Richmond, June a enslaved girl and kitten Hungry dream of Massa Linkum’s promised freedom. June escapes at night with Creline’s warning, but travels through rain and woods to find him, only to die in the quest. The story ends with June entering a peaceful afterlife, Massa Linkum waiting beyond.
