Bristol and Powhatan Baseball Clash and Community Festivities
The Colored Giants of Cleveland defeated the Bristol team 9 to 1 at Sylvester Oval in a lively afternoon game. Bristol players Murphy Bottomley and Turner stood out on the field with strong defense while H Murphy and Wright led scoring. A postgame clash saw a prize race between Edghill Duffy and Bristol catcher Bottomley, won by Bottomley in 14.2 seconds. The day featured athletic events on State Street with boys from Boy Scouts and juniors racing, as well as a parade and civic celebrations by National Guard units, Bristol Chamber of Commerce divisions, and a large community turnout downtown. A shooting incident injured Mrs. Josephine Cirella, leading to hospital X‑rays, with police investigating the accidental gunfire.
