Half-Pound Hen Egg Stuns Plymouth Rocks Farmer

Fire guts historic Central Street home of A. A. Marcotte

Police and fire officials investigated a Sunday afternoon blaze that gutted the interior of A. A. Marcotte’s 21 2 story brick home at 34 Central Street. Miss Emily Osterberg spotted smoke and alerted neighbors. the four local volunteer units battled the fire until after 5 pm. The 1759 dwelling, valued at $6500 with $2500 house insurance and $500 garage policy, had $2000 insured furniture loss. The Marcotte family was later located at relatives in Tiverton.

Summer Theatre School Announced For Newport

The Actor-Managers announce a six week Newport Casino Theatre season plus a nine week Master Apprentices theatre school. Applicants require at least two years of amateur acting or drama training. Brown Is Out of Danger After Carding Dept Injury

Frank F. Brown of 49 Bournstreet was seriously injured in an unexplained accident at Collins and Aikman Corporation and then moved by Colt Memorial ambulance to St. Josephs Hospital where officials report he is out of danger. Brown, employed at the mill since 1917, was found on the floor with possible skull fracture and multiple abrasions. No one was with him at the time.

Moriarty Speaks To Holy Name Society

G Andrews Moriarty, former local resident now in Maine, addressed Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Holy Name Society at the Parish Hall. He traced Communism from its writings to its European and American activities and urged formation of a Christian party to save the United States.

Bristol Pairs Seek Nonpolitical Town Board Elections

James T. Pierce of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee proposes removing politics from the Town Council and School Committee elections. He plans to ask Rep Henry Alfred to draft a General Assembly measure and to lobby Senators Wall and Magee. He envisions ballots with multiple names and voters selecting five of ten, removing party designations to encourage merit over party labels.
