Town Council Endorsements Spark Bitter Democratic Fight
The Democratic Town Committee endorsed the incumbent slate after stormy sessions over two contested council seats. John Romano faced challenges from Rocco Migliori and Joseph Pannone, while William T. Dwyer lost renomination for the sewer board to James Sisson. The committee also backed most town officers and approved a rule to drop any endorsed candidates who join other parties or accept external endorsements.

Forand Backs Newport Frigate Constellation Plan in Congress
Congressman Aime J Forand introduced a House resolution to keep the frigate Constellation as a Newport National Museum and home port, countering Maryland’s push to move the ship to Baltimore. It would cost about 400000 to recondition for relocation, a figure opponents call wasteful. The Rhode Island delegation argues Newport’s long history with the vessel, while hearings are planned before Naval Affairs committees. Forand and wife met President Roosevelt and the first lady at a White House reception after attending a social and political event in Washington.
