Salary decisions await School Committee action on teachers' raises

The Brist ol Teachers Association Salary Committee will meet after school with Superintendent Edward J. Fitzgerald to hear the School Committee's action on teachers salary requests. The proposals include higher minimums for elementary junior high and senior high staff and a unified schedule with automatic increases at 12, 15, 20 and 25 years. The budget for the school department is set for a February 10 meeting.

Bristol Fire Department Receives Donations After Major Warehouse Fire

Four residents added to prior gifts with checks totaling 55 dollars to the Bristol Fire Department in gratitude for protecting homes during the November 5 blaze at the Bristol Mfg Co warehouse. Donations came from Mildred M. Herreshoff Norman Herreshoff C Maurice Congdon and Mrs Marjorie Van W Lyon and an anonymous couple.

Holy Name Society Elects Officers At St Elizabeth

During Forty Hours Devotions at St Elizabeth Church the Holy Name Society admitted twenty five new members and elected officers President Henry Miranda Secretary Gilbert Oliver Treasurer Jose DeMello. An Activity Committee was named including Daniel Almeida Edmund Maiato David Camara and others. Installation planned next meeting. A proposal endorsed salary increase for the Bristol Teachers Association.

William Guevremont Injured In Auto Accident

William R. Guevremont, 32, of 29 Summer Street, was critically injured when his car crashed into a tree after leaving Hope and Valley streets. He was taken to Truesdale Hospital with possible skull fracture, scalp lacerations, and brain concussion after attending a Friday night performance at Luke's Lodge Tiverton. Police investigators Captain William I Baker and Patrolman Joseph T. Texeira ruled him the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Knights of Columbus To Honor 25-Year Members in Bristol

Bristol Council No. 379 Knights of Columbus will honor over 60 members with 25 years or more in the order at a February 12 banquet. State Deputy and District Deputy expected, with a prominent speaker to be arranged. Arrangements led by Frederick T. Goff, Salvatore Massano, Jerome Donovan, Leon Dobridnia, Dr. Joseph Pine and Norman Vermette. The Regina Elena Society elected new officers for the next term: President Mary De Felece, Vice-president Fanny Langella, Secretary Anna Abbenante, Treasurer Anna Matrone. They also hosted a surprise birthday party for Mrs Matrone.

Bristol Lace Company executive Mervyn Clay yesterday resigned from the Republican Town Committee after two years of service. He criticized the group as unrepresentative and said he does not plan to run for Town Council, denying rumors of an independent slate for the March elections.
