Bronze statues demand vast labor and precise casting
A Cassell's Journal description explains the bronze statue process from the plaster model to the final reveal. Sand cores 1500 to 2000 pieces form the mold, then clay is added to create a core. The core surface is shaved a quarter inch, the mold rebuilt, and iron rods keep it centered. Bronze is poured, cooled, and the clay interior removed for the rough statue.
