Good Samaritan Hero Saves Child From Fire Near Bradford

Soldiers Can Subscribe Directly for Papers to Servicemen
Postmaster Daniel W Coggeshall explained that war parents and colonies may send newspapers to servicemen only via direct subscriptions with publishers. An order bars mailing old or new copies by individuals and requires command approval for any article shipment. Shipments to soldiers now need a permit from the commanding officer, preserving space for munitions and food. The ruling also covers magazines and aims to keep home papers flowing through standard channels.

Missing Navy Plane: Capt Donald Godwin Among Aboard
Capt Donald Godwin an American naval officer aboard the missing transport plane is brother in law to Everett LeBaron Church of this town. He commanded a battleship in the Pacific since last November and was part of the 12th Naval District assignment at the time of the accident. Rear Admiral English, commander of the Pacific fleet submarine force, was on the same plane. Godwin, married with a daughter in Washington DC, has many local friends and often visited Bristol.

Missing Kenneth A Lawson Believed Missing in Service
Kenneth A Lawson of 42 Cottage Street is reported missing. A Navy telegram reached his wife on Saturday, confirming his status as the fifth local serviceman reported missing. Lawson, a Coast Guard motor machinist’s mate first class, entered service May 20 after working at Herreshoff Manufacturing. He was born in Fall River to Mr and Mrs Henry H Lawson and is the father of a five month old son.
