Blount Marine signs two new vessel contracts
Blount Marine Corp announces contracts for an 450 passenger excursion ship for Straits Transit of Mackinac City and an 85 by 28 foot 450 passenger twin screw ferry for Lake Champlain Transportation. The Mackinac vessel, powered by GM 12V-71 diesels, will run Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island. The two ships join Island Queen delivered in 1966. Delivery for both vessels is slated for spring 1969.

Big Sister Drive Dinner Planned in Providence
The third annual membership drive dinner of Big Sister Assoc chaired by Commander Walter McQueeney will be held on Thursday Feb 6 at the 1025 Club on Plainfield St Providence Tickets available at 49 Westminster St Providence telephone 331-6114. The organization founded in February 1966 by the Zonta Club of the Providence area has almost 50 matched pairs of Big and little sisters Funds from the drive and prior dinners support expansion of this community service.

Retirement prep course at Univ of RI Extension
A new semester course Preparing for Retirement will be offered by the University of Rhode Island Extension Division starting February 12. Dr Mary C Mulvey will conduct the ten week Wednesday evening class at 7 pm. The course is free for men and women aged 60 plus with no registration fee. Nautical Spectacular: The 1969 International Boat Show runs February 8 to 16 at Boston War Memorial Auditorium, sponsored by the New England Marine Trade Assoc, featuring top boating industry names in the region.
