Burnside Lodge Knights of Pythias 37th Anniversary Celebration

The 37th anniversary observance of Burnside Lodge No 34 Knights of Pythias was held in Grand Army hall with many members present and visiting Grand Officers led by Claude C Tanner. Past Grand Chancellor Clifford E Jones spoke on Pythianism and insurance features, and a one act play Saw It With Taffy entertained attendees. Refreshments closed the event.

Fire damages Mt Hope Diner. food losses noted

Morning fire at Mt Hope Diner on Bradford Street was confined to the work room near a door to the yard. Firemen used chemicals and booster tank to limit damage, saving most of the structure, but meat and other foods in the ice chest were spoiled.

Snowstorm Coats Streets and Hills With Heavy Snow

A heavy snowstorm covered the ground to several inches on Tuesday and kept the highway department and plows busy. Horse plows were used on walks while motor plows cleared streets. The snow stacked on Bay View avenue created good coasting for residents, drawing groups to enjoy sleigh rides as the season’s heaviest fall so far.

At a Wednesday night meeting in the Hotel Belvedere the general committee awarded full power to the executive committee to plan the September five day observance of Bristol's 250th anniversary. Questions included number of days and event scheduling, with committees named for finance, music, housing, publicity, and more as they weigh logistics and clashing dates.

Elm Farm Sold at Hope Street Acreage Between Warren and Bristol

Frank H Buffinton has sold Elm Farm of 37 acres on Hope Street near the Warren Bristol lines to Frank and Anna Perry. The Perrys have managed the farm for years and will finalize deeds in the coming days. Members of Kearney Post American Legion mourn the death of J Howard Paull a charter member who died at his Hope street home. A funeral is set for Saturday at 2 PM. Vulcanizer Explosion Rocks Industrial Plant

A large vulcanizer at the National India Rubber Co. factory near Franklin and Wood streets exploded Tuesday afternoon causing a 7 1 2 ton iron door to be hurled 15 feet. No serious injuries were reported among women employees. several treated for cuts and nervous shock as crews contained a small fire and investigated the blast.

The Town Council authorized its chairman Judge Edward L. Leahy to hire New York planning expert Robert Whitten to prepare zoning plans. Whitten, paid 6000 dollars, will draft base maps, zone boundaries, regulations, and hold hearings to refine and adopt ordinances for residential, business, manufacturing, and other zones.
