Penhallow on Annual Rings of Tree Growth and Climate
Prof P D Penhallow finds that tree ring formation mainly reflects alternating rest and activity cycles. In cold climates rings roughly index age though not always. In warm climates rings indicate rainfall periods rather than yearly summer growth.
