Monthly Town Council Session Reports Library Growth

Jurors served in the Superior Court as a monthly town session was held Wednesday with the board present. Councilmembers Hibbert Ushers and Gaspers drew jurors. McGovern escaped. The Roger Free Library 38th annual report was submitted showing a net gain of 454 volumes catalogued 20 rebound volumes and total circulation 517 577. Donations include 50 volumes from John H Harding estate and a large collection from Judge Jonathan R Bullock presented by his widow Emma Westcott Bullock. The Board recommends a town appropriation of 900 for the coming year. The Council adjourned about 8 30.

Nomination of Dr Oswald R Siegel as Medical Examiner

Dr Oswald R Siegel of this town has been nominated by Governor Beeckman as Medical Examiner and the nomination was sent to the Senate yesterday. Dr W Fred Williams declines reappointment after 24 years. Siegel, born in Clinton Mass on Dec 28 1871, came here at age five and trained at Bristol High and New York University Medical College class of 1892. He began practice in 1894, studied in Germany in 1897, and has served this town since with a hiatus in 1897. He holds multiple medical and fraternal memberships and has been medical examiner for several life insurers. The six year term expires in 1922.

Young Men's Parish Club Elects Officers at Annual Meeting

The Young Men's Parish Club of Trinity Church held its annual meeting after a supper at Trinity Parish House. Officers elected and installed were President Chester R. Burgess, Vice President George Balfour, Secretary George R. Fish, Sergeant-at-Arms B. W. Coggeshall, and Auditor LeBaron Bradford. Treasurer to be chosen next meeting. The social committee announced the play The College Ball would be presented next month.

Star Theatre Presents Multiple Shorts and Dramas

The Star Theatre will host the 20th episode of The Broken Coin titled Danger on the High Seas starring Francis Ford and Grace Cunard. British Relief Society Benefit Draws Bristol Audience

Last evening in the Pastime Theatre Bristol Rhode Island the British Relief Society staged an entertainment program with music and moving pictures. Miss Helen Warren sang I Love You and earned two encores while Corporal James Hesketh told front line experiences and wore a gas mask for 18 hours. Corporal Hesketh praised British army bravery and veteran care. Rustom Rustomjee and William Beresford spoke on India loyalty to the empire and relief efforts urging donations.

Dixon Declares Candidacy for First District Congress Seat

Rhode Island politics move as State Senator Ezra Dixon of Bristol announces a Republican bid for Congress in the First District. Newport’s Guy Norman also seeks the nomination and Roswell E. Burchardy of Little Cranston is expected to run. The district covers parts of Providence East Providence Bristol and Newport counties. Dixon, a Civil War veteran and former House member now in the Senate, chairs the State Board of Charities and Corrections and leads local industries.
