Larger appropriation urged for Defiance fire department banquet

Capt Raymond Brightman of Defiance Hose Company urged at the annual banquet that the town meet a larger fire department appropriation at the next financial town meeting. He noted the current $1000 appropriation is too large as a gift and too small as payment for services, calling the 50 percent cut drastic. Despite reduced funding, he said firemen remained efficient with unemployed members helping at stations. The talk drew favorable responses from speakers, with many officials attending the banquet and praising the department’s work in protecting town property.
