Bristol records show $103 778 in building value for the first nine months of 1939 far above recent years. Otis M Bailey reports 108 permits and notes reconstruction from the 1938 hurricane boosted activity while he added a new filing system aligned with federal records.
Frank Chace, 74, resident of the Benjamin Church Home for Aged Men, wandered away Thursday and was found nine hours later in the snow near Ferry road opposite St. Columba Seminary. Police, fire squads, and Boy Scouts organized a three hour search before Reserve Officer Orlando S. Ruggiero located him and brought him to the Bristol police station. Dr William L. Searbst treated him for exposure and he was returned to the home in fair condition.
A D E Sorority elected Lucy Casano as president at the annual meeting held last night at Carmellina Formisano's home on Bradford Street. Antonette Rucci was named vice president with Miss Formisano as secretary and Rose Tuffarola as treasurer. Rhoda Levy was appointed pledge committee chair, assisted by Eva Brown Alma Marino and Miss Tufarola. An entertainment committee was formed with Leah Fuisenstadt as chair and members Mary Russo Antonette Rucci Martha DiMezza and A M Campanello.
James G. Carns Jr was named chairman of the Bristol committee for the Presidents Birthday Ball and March of Dimes. He is manager of the Bristol County Water Company and will announce committee members next Tuesday. The Ball and the March of Dimes fund infantile paralysis treatment and research efforts.
The sewer commission asked the Town Council to pass an ordinance granting power to punish violators of surface drainage rules. They also urged regulations on laying drains town wide to better control petitions. The panel seeks $11,946.06 owed to the State since 1932 and $125 owed to a Boston engineer, plus a $239 bill from 1936. The 1932 intercepting sewer on Court Street prompted the costs.
Reverend Samuel M. Lindsay of Brookline Baptist Church will be the guest preacher at a Sunday community service at 7 30 p m in the First Congregational Church The service will be presided by Reverend Arthur W Burdon with Canon Parshley assisting. choirs of three cooperating churches and tenor Vernon A Gravy will perform.

Herbert Spink head of the Providence School Department Placement Bureau spoke to a large audience at the Andrews School during a Junior-Senior P T A meeting. Ian M Walker presided as president and the program featured entertaining musical selections and skits by high school boys.
The chair committee of the St Mary's Church card party plans a whist tea on January 18 at K of C Hall State Street to fund the Feb 2 event. Arrangements are led by Mrs Charles M Cannery with assistance from Mrs William T Dweer. Mrs John Mckenna and Miss Henrietta Connery assist.
Mrs William Pinch was the principal speaker at the Taft School Club meeting. She spoke on the State P A Congress and the recent State Congress in Providence. Chorus was led by Mrs Calbraith Perry. Hostesses were Mrs Anthony Costa Mrs Elmer Manley and Mrs A A Moren. A card party was announced for the near future.
The Bristol District Nursing Association reports $820 raised so far from Christmas Seals sales. Secretary Miss Evelyn Carter notes many more contributions likely from additional supporters who usually donate sizable amounts.
Joseph Marshall was chosen president of the Collins and Aikman Men's Club with Joseph Dennis as vice president and John Langello as secretary. The group will hold its annual banquet on February 10.
Carr Manufacturing Corp beat Collins and Aikman 38 to 32 in the opening Bristol Manufacturers Basketball League night. US Rubber defeated Aratex 36 to 20 as ceremonies honored Leo Mans.
