The National Rubber Company origin in Bristol 1863 led to a large U S Rubber plant occupying 18 acres with 654000 sq ft floor space and 1400 employees. From Providence roots to Bristol expansion, the plant produced rubber footwear later wiring cable and ships gas and power use lights over ten thousand homes.
At a recent session in a school venue, Bartlett, factory manager, announced the sale of the Eamiparty to Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation. He expressed desire to inform each employee personally and outlined post sale plans while noting a silent reception from attendees.
Herbert Reid of Kaiser Aluminum and Chemicals told Bristol business leaders that Kaiser will acquire the United States Rubber Bristol plant as a going concern. He assured employees their fringe benefits and seniority will be preserved and that management will remain in place to ensure a smooth transition. Bartlett stressed the goal of keeping the organization intact and highlighted the importance of know‑how and talent in the sale.
