Dry mop misheard in London store tale

A London-based Christian Science Monitor columnist recounts an American visitor asking for a "dry mop" to pick up kittens in a department store. Misunderstandings unfold as staff clarify "dry mawp" and confirm the store actually has only one very large cat. The humorous exchange highlights language gaps between Americans and Britons.

Poppasquash seeks town sewers and water access

Poppasquash residents led by Charles B. Rockwell asked the town council to include their area in the planned $1.5 million initial phase of a $4.5 million sewer expansion. They contend taxes, no town services, and higher costs justify hookups from the town system. The council noted the request and planned discussion with the sewer commission at an April town meeting.

Capone Appeal Delays High School Funding for Warren and Bristol

Former town solicitor Lucien Capone filed an appeal against a Superior Court decision in the town dock case, hindering both Warren and Bristol from borrowing funds. Warren seeks a $900,000 high school project while Bristol targets $20,000 for town dock work. Banks refuse loans until the Bristol case resolves, and both towns rely on citizen committees amid legal delays. Capone’s move appears to disproportionately affect Warren, delaying a project valued far higher than Bristol’s.
