The Bristol Defense Council leaders defend a $35,000 budget for defense feeds and operations. They promise itemized estimates, open hours at the Legion report center, and clarification that auxiliary police and fire funds are separate from the regular police budget. A New Year’s Eve charity dance by Bristol Yacht Club women raised 45 dollars for the Red Cross.

Vernon A. Gray, Bristol Post Office clerk and noted town tenor, suffered a heart attack at work. After first aid by Dr. A. P. F. DAngelo, he was moved home then sent to Truesdale Hospital. Condition listed as serious today.
Four beach wagons will be converted into ambulances in Bristol at a total cost around 100 dollars. Each unit will carry two stretchers and field hospital supplies to care for up to 800 people and will be manned by Red Cross Motor Corps volunteers for disaster transport and medical aid.
The American Red Cross Bristol branch will relocate to the Eugenia Paull home at 709 Hope Street next Monday. Rev Anthony R Parshley, executive committee chairman, announced the move and noted collection of donated furniture and sewing machines will occur Tuesday. He emphasized the need for more chairs and a usable typewriter.
The all night parking ban goes into full effect 48 hours after the Town Council asked Police Chief Anthony J. Ferrara to comply with the State Defense Council. Warnings were issued while a two hour street rule operates from 2 to 7 a m with possible fines on second offenses.
The Bristol Tire Rationing committee held its first session at the Kearney Post Home with three members. It received two applications for new tires from an ice and fuel dealer and a Bristol man working in an upstate mill on a national defense project. The dealer must resubmit a filled out form after inspection of his old tires. the mill worker’s case is not covered by the law, so no action is possible. Councilman Paul A. Herzig chaired the meeting with Elmer A. Angell and Robert W. Nelson as members.
A 17 year old youth employed by Bristol Manufacturing Company was discharged after throwing an electric light bulb inside the United States Rubber Company plant. Maurice C. Smith Jr. said the act violated plant rules and would not be tolerated, though the bulb was not thrown on the sidewalk. He praised the soldiers guarding the plant as courteous and deserving of respect.
The Don Luiz Filipe Society voted to buy another $1000 United States Defense Bond joining other government securities it holds. Antonio Cabral president announced the move. Anthony H. Alfred and his suite will officiate at Sunday installation ceremonies at 2 o’clock Hall Ushers Avenue followed by a cornucopia collation.
Air raid wardens will take the first of six hour first aid courses at their meeting Tuesday night in the Colt auditorium. Dr C Paul Brung will be the instructor.
A German parachute spy, dropped near London Colney Hertfordshire, buried gear including a camouflaged parachute, pistol and wireless set, then was arrested after a driver misdirected him. He carried hundreds of pounds in mixed currency and a map of eastern counties. The tale mirrors stories of wartime espionage and sabotage in Britain.
