Trinity Church Festival Ends With Santa Claus Pranks
The Trinity Church Christmas festival on Epiphany eve featured a 7 to 7:45 p.m. service with boys and girls choirs and music by Gounod and Smart in D. Afterward, a social hour revealed a playful program with fake Santa events and a purse gift of 30 dollars to the rector, Rev. W. R. The recent cold wave pushed temperatures from 3 to 14 below zero across Rhode Island with Woonsocket at 14 below Providence 5 and Newport 8. The upper harbor froze and navigation later resumed. Rain and warmth reduced much of the snow, creating slippery sidewalks and pooling water at Washington and Hope streets. Ice ponds form, offering relief for ice consumers if another cold spell returns.

Firemen Elect Officers Across Four Fire Companies
The Defiance Hose Company, Hydraulions, King Philip Steam Fire Engine No 1, and Dreadnaught Hook Ladder No 1 held annual meetings this week electing officers for the coming year. Defiance reported 27 of 34 active members present with Beals as Foreman and a parish of officers named. King Philip elected a full slate led by Foreman R H Peterson. Hydraulions re elected Foreman Walter Coggeshall with a full set of officers and a turkey supper. Dreadnaught elected Gravelle as Foreman and announced a turkey supper next Thursday.
