Bristol Town Council Reviews Lease Request And Street Lights

The Bristol Town Council met Jan regular session with most members present. They debated allocating for Col L H Callan 99 year lease of town land on Wood street at 25 dollars yearly, and instructed the clerk to measure the tract and compare values. They discussed Wright at Providence State asylum and which town accounts should cover his care, plus street lights failures and rebates. A liquor license was granted for 1988 Thames street to Henry F Rawson. Fire company annual meetings elected officers and held pig suppers.

Fort Philip Kearney site moved to Saunderstown Rhode Island

A Washington dispatch misidentified Bristol Neck as the coast defence battery site. Later advice shows Boston Neck as the location, with the fort at Fort Philip Kearney planned for Saunderstown. The battery will be at Saunderstown near Narragansett Bay, close to Bonnet Point.
