Moore Seeks Industry Help as $7500 Civic Drive Total Reaches

St Marys Offers Inquiry and Convert Class on Faith

Ensign Kerr Takes Part in Operation Springboard Maneuver

Ensign Norman J. Kerr of 1255 Hope Street joined the Navy winter training exercise Operation Springboard aboard the destroyer Hailey. The Caribbean maneuver runs from November to April 1954, involving nearly 100 warships 250 aircraft and 35 000 sailors to improve upkeep training and combat readiness of Atlantic Fleet units.

Local Civil Defense Radio Unit Names New Assistant Officer

At a town council meeting the Civil Defense Communications unit appointed Bernard M Grabert as assistant radio officer under Nelson G Beals. The unit approved private use of equipment by hams to keep it in shape for emergencies and discussed the coming budget for spare tubes and parts. Emilio Iannuccillo designated alternate control station and will maintain the 2 meter transmitter for state CD, with temporary 10 meter use.

Guiteras Home Renovation Nears Parsonage Use

The Guiteras Home on High Street is being renovated for use as a parsonage by the First Congregational Church. Completion is expected by early February after negotiations to purchase from Geraldine E. Guiteras' estate. Work includes bath updates, kitchen modernization, a new picture window, and other improvements. The Rev. Dr. Frederick F. Driftmier plans to move from the sold 256 Hope Street parsonage by February 1, and the building sits just north of Guiteras House, used for parish activities.

Fitzgerald Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in Army Reserve

Edward J. Fitzgerald has been promoted from major to lieutenant colonel in the U S Army Reserve. The swearing in occurred Thursday for service with the Army Reserve School in Providence. A Norwich University graduate, he joined the Cavalry in 1927 and later served as chief of military personnel at Camp Edwards Massachusetts.

New England Electric System to Aid Bristol Industrial Push

John Da Moore of Narragansett Electric announces aid from New England Electric System to Bristol as part of an industrial development drive. Baylies of Boston, the system’s industrial development manager, offered to visit Bristol, review local manufacturing facilities, and list them in system publications and ads to attract industry. The effort includes detailed property listings and coordination through Baylies’ office for further information.
