Rubber Industry Outlook Sees 1920 Slump and 1921 Hope
The 1920 rubber sector saw a peak then a decline in prices and demand. Crude rubber prices fell below production costs, with US consumption under 225,000 tons and stocks around 100,000 to 125,000 tons. Footwear and tire sectors face slowdowns, but highway and business use may boost tire demand in 1921. Export trade remains challenged by dollar strength, yet optimism persists for steadier world exchange and continued foreign demand. Collections show higher receivables but not at normal levels.
