A suspicious fire broke out shortly after 9 30 at 29 State St rear, affecting Long Horn Cafe on the first floor and tenements above. An empty jug found nearby led Fire Chief Rishe to call for state fire marshal scrutiny. Heat spread to a Bristol Social Club stairway and windows. Police led residents to safety. Gowdy family was away. Damage about $3,000, insured. Neighbors cared for displaced residents.
