Morgan Collection at Madison Square A Lifework of Art

From Our Special Correspondent in New York February 23 1886 a portrait of Mrs Morgan widow of James Morgan whose vast wealth funded a superb private art collection. The Morgan Collection exhibited at the American Association galleries reveals Corot Millet Meissonier Bouguereau and Henner among others. The piece notes the unusual isolation of the city house that held the treasures and lauds the collection as the finest private holdings in the United States. It also covers the London exhibition bill debate and hopes for American participation with State and private backing and planned athletic contests between Americans and English visitors.
