At a Friday Budget Commission hearing in the Burnside Memorial Building, Bristol taxpayers pressed for deep cuts to all budget items. John H Wall urged seeking more state aid for schools to offset losses from National India Rubber Co. and warned of rising taxes without revenue. Judge Edward L Leahy and Attorney William R Perry advocated substantial salary reductions and trimming nonessential items to balance next year’s expected lower revenue.

Alpha Christian Endeavor Society of the First Congregational Church journeyed to Peace Dale Congregational Church for a State Rally of the Rhode Island Christian Endeavor Union to contest for the state banner awarded to the society with the largest attendance percentage. The local group won last year at Cranston and again earned the banner yesterday for an attendance over 135 percent, with Rev Herbert D Graetz presiding as RI C E Union president.
