St Paul’s School letters to the editor urge Bristol to spare the ancient East Burial Ground. Rev Dr Samuel S Drury argues moving graves endangers community steadiness and reverence for forebears, urging preservation and upkeep of the sacred site.
The Post Office Department plans an order effective March 1 requiring letter drops for free delivery patrons with carriers. Postmaster Damelle Coggeshall says those who prefer picking mail at the office can continue, as boxes or door slots are not meant to deny service but to improve efficiency and reduce carrier irritation.
Republican Town Committee met at Hotel Belvedere and endorsed Edward L. After a canvass and bid opening for the Church street storm sewer from Wood street to the harbor seven bids were read. The lowest was 13775 by Charles A Hag gerty Worcester Mass but all bids exceeded 12000 and no contract was awarded. A bank book for perpetual care of a burial lot was received. The council plans monthly meeting tonight and a special meeting Friday for the town budget.
Mrs William S Hart, 90, celebrated at 25 Lincoln Avenue. Born February 18, 1833 in Bristol, she has lived in town all her life. Married in 1848 to William Shepard Hart of North Dartmouth. Her son James R Hart and daughter Mrs Rebecca E Ennis attend her as she greets visiting friends, though she has recently been bedbound part of the time.
Rev Frederick I Marvon rector of Trinity Church will preach at St Michael's Lenten services tomorrow evening at the church. Congregational singing is planned as part of the observance.
The Bristol Parent Teachers Association invites teachers, School Committee members, and association members to a reception at Colt Memorial High School auditorium to honor Herbert Clish the new Reynolds School principal. A brief business meeting at 7 30 followed by entertainment at 8 and an informal reception with refreshments.
Bristol D A R plans an afternoon program at the Hotel Belvedere on February 22 at 3 o clock. Miss Mabel B Salsbury will play piano and the Kambour trio will present readings and musical numbers for members and guests.
