Bristol Youth Rescues Dog From Icy River

Alphonse Mancini a fourteen year old Boy Scout from Hudson Massachusetts braved thin ice to reach a dog struggling in the Asabet River near a dam. He crawled onto fragile ice and fell in but swam to the dog then dried off before rejoining the Scout meeting. Mancini’s act earns him praise and consideration for life saving and animal rescue awards.

Patrolman Cashin Solves Bristol Yacht Club Break

Patrolman William T Cashin recovered stolen items after arresting three youths aged 12 to 15 at the Bristol Yacht Club. The loot included playing cards, trays, keyholders, shotgun shells, trinkets, wrenches, knives, washers and threads. the boys were released to parents and will appear before Judge Lindemuth in Juvenile Court next Monday.

Mothers Night Observed by Evergreen Girl Scouts

Mothers Night was observed Friday evening at Reyonds School by Evergreen Troop No 3 of the Girl Scouts. The program featured two one act plays and a sketch Spirit of the Girl Scout Laws. Miss Catherine Hammett State Director gave an illustrated lecture on Camp Hoffman. Mrs Norton Minderstein presented a prize to Evelyn Brito for selling most cookies. Refreshments were supervised by Mrs Earl Hobson. Sixty people attended.

Washington Ball Friday Evening Outstanding Social Event

The 87th annual Washington Ball by the Bristol Train of Artillery will be held next Friday evening at the State Armory Church Street. Governor Theodore Francis Green and staff lead a distinguished guest list with national color decorations planned. Reservations for booths are rapidly filling as George R. Fish coordinates decorations and Harold start provides music at 9 o'clock. The event promises a premier social setting with a strong committee lineup including Lieut. James J. Velleca as chairman and Ex-Officio Col. A. M. Merriman among others.

An Old Fashioned Garden church school musical play

A two act musical fantasy titled An Old Fashioned Garden will be staged Thursday evening at DeWolf Memorial Chapel under Church School auspices. Directed by Rev Herbert D Graetz and Mrs Arthur Scott with a large cast including Roswell Bosworth Audrey Munro and Norman Eddy, the production features a Colonial Garden setting in Act I and a broadcasting studio in Act II with choral and instrumental numbers.

Bristol Era Worker Victim of Exposure

Dennis Amaral a 60 year old Bristol era worker lies in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital Providence from exposure suffered while lying several hours yesterday in his unheated tenement at 281 Thames Street. He suffered probable cerebral hemorrhage per Dr C Paul Bruno. Found by Mrs Filomena Roderick, she alerted police and doctor. Amaral had risen earlier to go to work but collapsed while dressing. He has lived alone since his wife was moved to her sister's home due to illness.

Drunken driving fine for Harrie L. Fales in East Providence

Harrie L. Fales an East Providence accountant pleaded guilty to drunken driving and was fined 113.15 after a January 5 arrest when his car collided with Frank L. Close’s vehicle at Hope and Washington streets. Four civil cases were disposed of by Judge Benjamin F Lindemuth and others were continued for a week with a bill of particulars ordered in Sousa v Trenstrup.
