Washington observes Mamie Eisenhower favors home life and small gatherings over formal functions. She entertains at home, hosts friends, and often plays the electric organ while the President and she maintain a private, informal routine even in the White House.
Mamie Eisenhower, constrained by Secret Service and crowds, reads ads and orders by mail. She reshapes the second floor living area with pink and green, aims to treat the White House as a warm home, greeting up to 600 daily and 800 per hour at formal receptions, slowing the line with cheerful remarks.
Planning Board Chairman Rog er W. Pigeon refused appointment to a new town building code committee. He argues a committee already exists that studied and recommended the National Code, noting substantial prior work, public hearings, and printed code availability.
Fire Chief Oscar A Rishe urged homeowners to exercise caution in burning rubbish and dry grass after six weekend fires kept the department busy. Two grass fires Saturday on Sowams Road and Annawamscutt Drive. Sunday grass and rubbish-related blazes near De Wolf Woodlawn and Leahy King Philip. yesterday two more on Acacia Road and Mt Hope Avenue. Damage was slight in all cases with six fires believed started by youngsters or careless disposal.
Donald M. Burger, Bristol blood donor program chairman, promotes a Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday February 23 from 12 30 to 5 30. Donors must be 18 to 60 with medical checks, and may donate every two months up to five times a year.
Bristol PTA hosts a forum titled Toward a Code of Conduct for Teenagers at 8 p.m. in Guiteras auditorium after a 7 to 8 p.m. open house. Panels include parents teachers and students debating curfews allowances movie choices and home democracy with Abbie Young and Thomas Vendituoli representing teens.
Pfc. Antonio Borges Jr., 20, son of 205 Thames Street residents, serves in Japan with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. The unit, famed for two Korea jumps, now acts as a security force. Borges enlisted in October 1952 at Fort Benning and arrived overseas last September.
Bristol Eagle Scouts held their third annual reunion and dinner at the White Rail, with twenty one attendees and messages from about six more. The event marks the continuation of Scouting’s 35th anniversary in Bristol starting in 1947, now an annual affair. Three Eagles have died and some live far away. Michael Topazio served as chairman.
The Bristol Civil Defense Advisory Council approved a 9500 dollar net budget for submission to the April town meeting after 50 percent discounts on new equipment. Major items include a rescue trailer unit discounted to 3222.50 and a special weapons unit request of 1274, plus a blood type tagging project and painting for desks at 500.
Scoutmaster Wilson Luther and Bob Powell announce March 6 as Troop Two Boy Scouts first class hike. Pioneer patrol led by James Waters leads inter patrol contest with 66 points, Apache patrol led by Walter Swanson Jr. close at 55. Thursday meeting focused on first aid with demonstrations and Ronald Luther, new senior patrol leader, running the session. Two new second class scouts Carl Russo and James Waters added to the troop.
A new Mt Hope Girl Scout Council will unite 109 troops across East Providence Rumford Riverside Barrington Warren and Bristol into one chartered council. The plan cuts budgets to a single Community Chest allocation and grants shared leadership for enhanced programs and efficiency.
Matt Ilego and three friends on the last rabbit hunting day in Tiverton bagged a dozen rabbits with beagle hounds. They return to Nick's Bar for a stew with liquid refreshments as stories of the outing spread among patrons.

More than 10 000 drycleaners from around the world gathered for a three day meeting with sessions on dry cleaning research employer employee relations public relations and improved methods including sport shirts and the charged system of dry cleaning.
Dr Thomas Perry a Providence surgeon will discuss the lung cancer cigarettes link at 8 p.m. Thursday in Rockwell House during the Bristol District Nursing Association annual meeting. He will address conflicting statements and outline ongoing association efforts and program results.
