Bristol Seeks 9700 for Red Cross War Fund Drive

Bristol residents are urged to donate 9700 to the Red Cross War Fund Campaign opening Sunday February 28. Dr John R Bernardo chairs the drive and lauds Red Cross relief work at home and abroad including blood plasma, nursing recruitment, wartime aid, and postwar care. Four committees organize the effort with a meeting at Rockwell Hall M C Y tomorrow at 7 PM.

New Group Of Pictures At Library

The Community Art Project funded by Brown University and the School of Design has updated the Rogers Free Library exhibit. Mrs Wesley Noble and Mrs Mina Pitman presented French flower prints, a large Chinese print, and American paintings. The works are available to rent for three months at seventy five cents each.

Freezing Tide Hits City as Harbor Freezes Over

Subzero temperatures closed schools and shuttered shops as thermometers read 13 below at seven am and 15 below at eight. Pipes froze, water outages rose, and the harbor steamed in cold haze, with Old Man Winter visible in the harbor vapor and Mt Washington said to be 46 below.

Army Day At C and A Stress War Production Arm

Army officers will tour Collins and Aikman plants in Rhode Island tomorrow to stress war production. Major Alex Smith and Captain William J. Victory Garden Meeting Set by Bristol Garden Club

The Bristol Garden Club invites all interested in a summer Victory Garden to a public meeting tomorrow afternoon at 230 oclock in the Colt Auditorium. Councilman John P. Marshall says the Town Honor Roll in front of Burnside Memorial Hall will be updated soon. Fire damages house on Roma Street in Providence tenement

Ferdinand Carvaturo woke to a blaze on the third floor of 13 Roma Street Tuesday morning. He and neighbors alerted residents on the first and second floors. Four fire companies fought the roof fire for nearly three hours. the building owner James Voccia of Providence said it was insured.

Hi School Coed Fun Nites Begin Saturdays at Bristol YMCA

The Bristol YMCA hosts Hi School Co-Ed Fun Nites each Saturday evening under Y secretary Hubert F Hill. High school students are invited to attend from 7:30 with ping pong bowling and table games, and dancing from 8:30 to 11. Invitations are distributed by Hi Y and Tri Hi Y members and require presenting at the door.

Altar Society Bridge Benefit At Mount Carmel

The Altar Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church held a large bridge event at the Colt School auditorium to benefit the church. About 45 tables were in play with Mrs. Carl Bisbane winning War Bond and Miss Irene Gerard taking the door prize. Refreshments were provided by a committee led by Mrs. James J Valleca and a general committee chaired by Miss John KE Berhardo.
