Home training seen as key to teaching children respect
A Bristol County Parent-Teacher Association forum at Colt Memorial High School drew more than 150 parents and teachers from Bristol, Warren, and Barrington. Moderator Fred Perkins led a panel of seven locals, including Mrs. Harold Shippee, Rhode Island Mother of the Year 1949, who urged involved parenting toward responsible conduct and shared ownership of children's duties. Miss Josephine Reardon of the Providence police backed home-based lessons on respecting others and called for cooperation among parents, schools, churches, and the wider community to provide a thoughtful environment.

The town committee reviewed Fay Spofford and Thorndike recommendations totaling 60 000 for relief and new storm sewers in the Washington street area. Anthropology talk and a lesson in understanding differences
In Providence I heard a talk on anthropology at the Veterans Hospital about how people of different nationalities and customs can get along better if they understand each other. Alpensfel, a Swedish-descended NYU faculty member, shared stories of war era experiences and a pin up tale illustrating cultural misunderstandings.
