Passage Of Civil Service Bill Urged By Speaker At Rotary Club

Mrs Eben D Collins of East Providence urged Rhode Island lawmakers to pass the Civil Service Bill now before the Senate Finance Committee. She cited the merit system as a path to fair public service and noted veterans’ preference should not override merit. Mrs Royal C Taft, president of the League, attended and warned that passage is only a start requiring citizen vigilance.

Evening High Graduation Set for Bristol Ten Students

Salvation Army Tag Day Tomorrow in Bristol

The Salvation Army announces its tag day in Bristol tomorrow led by Mrs. M. MacDougall chairing the Bristol Sponsoring Committee. With over $500 raised, the Bristol quota to reach is $750 as Leoland H. Cady oversees the effort and volunteers will sell red shield tags from morning to afternoon. William Wood serves as campaign treasurer.

Boys Club Guests Of Men’s Union At General House

Bristol Churches Await Bishop's Orders On Pope Pius XI Death

Citizens in general who valued his leadership for peace and social progress mourn the death of His Holiness Pope Pius XI at Vatican City after a two year illness. Bristol's three Roman Catholic churches await notification from Bishop Francis P. Keough to plan special masses in observance of the pope's death.

Sea Scouts Report A Successful Year

Sea Scouts at Kearney Ship enjoyed a successful season despite losing all equipment in a Septembers hurricane. Skipper Arthur J. Belmore reported to Kearney Post American Legion, noting the ten years of hard work were undone by the storm. Advisory committee members assisted in directing the Ship.

Dr Frederick V Martin director of Martin Hall Bristol and national authority on corrective speech was nominated by the Bristol Democratic town committee as second Councilman for the March 15 election. He said the endorsement came after careful consideration and he would vote honestly on town matters regardless of party. Martin opened a speech clinic for Dr James Rockett and has been active in civic affairs.
