Herreshoff Syndicate to Reorganize Yacht Plant

Wealthy New York and Boston yachtsmen headed by August Heckscher and Robert W Emmons plan to reorganize and enlarge the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company plant in Bristol. Capt Nat Herreshoff will be president and designer, James Swan named business manager, with A Loring Swansey among designers. The move follows sale of late John B Herreshoff interests and signals renewed push for U S Navy craft. Swansey has advised officials on naval construction.

Rhode Island Governor Proposes Navy Support and Ports Study

Governor Beeckman, visiting Washington, urged Secretary Daniels to mobilize Rhode Island support for naval readiness at Newport or nearby. He pressed Secretary Baker to stop dredgings dumped along Prudence Island, warning they threaten the Providence River channel and potential naval base use.

Boy Scouts Present Pinafore Miniature at Pastime Theater

The First Bristol Troop of Rhode Island Boy Scouts will stage H M S Pinafore as a miniature production at the Pastime Theatre on February 19 and 20. The cast is drawn from local youth and public school choristers with sixpiece Crown Orchestra providing music and new scenery. Rehearsals begin next Tuesday evening.

Colt Memorial High Glee Club Concert Tonight

The second annual Colt Memorial High School Glee Club concert will be held in the auditorium this evening. The club of 16 members includes seniors and juniors and will be assisted by Bertha Farrington and Harriet Kinder as readers and cellist respectively. Accompanists are Mary Newman and Hannah Kinder. Mary C Bolton will be director.

Town Council Meeting Sees New Auto Fire Truck Accepted

The Bristol town council accepted a new six auto fire truck costing 5250, following a March town vote to fund a fire truck and alarm system. The Seagrave Company supplied the truck and the New England Fire Exchange urged Class C rating to lower premiums, with two paid men required in addition to call men. Additional notes include plans for installing the fire alarm system, staffing at the National India Rubber Company factory, and routine council actions on sidewalk liability, a junk license petition, and public officer appointments.
