Ninety Years Young Comrade Garvin Honored at Big Birthday Reception

A large reception was held Saturday afternoon at G. A. R. Hall to honor Charles W. Garvin on his ninety third birthday. Senior Vice Commander of Babbitt Post No 156 A R and oldest member present, Garvin was celebrated by members of the Babbitt Post and Relief Corps along with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and allied organizations. The event featured musical numbers, tributes, gifts including a ten dollar gold piece, and a large birthday cake. Four generations of Garvin and fellow veterans attended, with notes of Fredericksburg service connecting several attendees.

Bristol Chamber Discusses Sewers Harbor Pollution and Survey

The Bristol Chamber of Commerce met at the Hotel Belvedere to vote on sewer expansion to Thompson and Mt Hope avenues with bonds to fund eastern system growth. Ezra Dixon and others defended harbor health, while the Schubarth survey was labeled harmful to real estate owners though Walsh asserted it necessary for street realignment. Resolutions honored Admiral Edwards and Judge Bosworth as the town plans its budget with council input.

Straw Vote On Gulletas School Site At N I R Co

At the National India Rubber Company plant Bristol residents voted on locating the Gulletas School and its type. Of about 3500 employees, 900 were ineligible or absent. 255 voted on site with East Burial Ground leading at 1390, High and State 505, Perry Place 298, Gen Callan property 214, Oliver and Hope 65, Franklin 63, Church 22. On school type 1535 favored grade school and 925 junior high.

Two Fires and Accident Dampen Evening in Charles Street Area

Last night a barn fire on Charles Street in the 29th district was put out with slight damage reported. Henry Ralph, a King Philip Engine Company member, slipped under a moving hydrant truck and fractured his left leg. he was treated by Dr John Lake and taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Earlier, firemen damaged FM Dixon's car on High Street. the blaze was suppressed with chemicals.

Taft School Club Speaker to Address Red Cross Effort

The Taft School Club meets Thursday afternoon at 3. Mrs Jessie Foley will discuss Red Cross work and lead a musical program. A cake sale benefits the piano fund after the program.
