Partition Fire in Franklin St. Building

A stubborn partition fire on upper Franklin street last night tied up four town fire companies for about an hour and caused an estimated $3,000 damage. Discovered by passer-by David Camara of 205 Franklin street, it started in a small room off a grocery store at 167 Franklin. The building is owned by Mrs. Mary D. Mello and houses a grocery run by Mrs. Guilberto Silva of 177 Bay View avenue. Fire reached the roof but was halted. hidden flames required exploratory holes in clapboards to locate.

Fire Fund Checks Sent After Dec Fire in Bristol

Checks totaling 1270.65 were signed for 26 residents who lost belongings in the December 23 fire at Bradford and Wy streets. A four person committee led by Mary Pereira divided money equally among six families, with individual sums from 48.87 to 439.83. The public subscription plus Red Cross and factory aid supplemented over 20,000 to victims.

Weber to Take Technical Post in Uruguay Venture

Roy A. Weber of the Bristol Plant U S Rubber Co leaves for Montevideo Uruguay to serve as technical advisor and consultant in the wire and cable division for Fabrica Uruguaya de Neumaticos Sociedad Anonima. The move, following thirteen years with the company, includes stops in Caracas and Rio de Janeiro. Weber, once a chemist and later with industrial engineering duties, is accompanied by his two daughters, residents of this town.

Heart Boxes for 1956 Heart Campaign distributed

Plastic heart collection boxes, attached to display cards with the slogan Help Your Heart Fund Help Your Heart, will appear in business places service stations hotels bars cafes and public buildings around town. Boxes will be collected after February 29.
