Elementary P T A Meeting at Walley School

Bristol Elementary Parent Teacher Association will meet at Walley School Thursday afternoon. Open house runs 2 30 to 3 30 with a 33X o'clock meeting. Mrs. Lucien Capone will report on state child welfare efforts. Students participate and tributes will honor Alice McClellan Birney and Phoebe Hearst.

Betsey Ann Butt Inducted Into WAVEs in Boston

Betsey Ann Butt daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry A Butt of Constitution Street was inducted into the Womens Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service in Boston. She will train at Hunter College New York City starting March first after moving to Bristol last year. She is a Hope High Providence graduate and attended the School of Practical Arts in Boston. She is a sophomore at the R S School of Design and teaches at St Michael's Church School. Her paintings are exhibited in Mrs Millards store in the Y M C A Building.

Rubinoff To Lecture At School Assemblies

Rubinoff will visit Bristol to lecture pupils of the Senior and Junior High Schools on music appreciation and public school benefits. Two assemblies are planned at 10:30 in Guiteras Junior High and later at Colt High School for high school pupils. Talks promote War Savings Stamps and Bonds through the Treasury.

Good Results Seen In Tag Day Last Week

Mrs Vas ta YaR Ruggiero chairwoman said the infantile paralysis tag days produced good results despite cold weather. The committee will meet Sunday at the YMCA to count funds and review responses to a special appeal. Twenty two hundred tags were sold across three tag dais.

Mailing rules tighten for overseas troops

Postmaster Daniel W. Coggeshall announced new limits on parcels to U S Navy Marine Corps or Coast Guard personnel overseas. No parcel over 5 pounds or exceeding 15 inches in length or 36 inches in length and girth combined will be accepted. One such parcel per week per addressee is allowed by mailers, while Army overseas shipments remain subject to earlier rules. V Mail is encouraged to save space and cargo for war needs. Matches must not be mailed overseas.

New School Bus Schedule Delayed in Several Towns

A revised bus schedule by Superintendent ES Mapes to enforce the two mile rule faced delay in Bristol and will not take effect yet. Complaints from parents about near routes have been sent to the DDT for action. In Barrington and Warren changes limit walking and prioritize small children.

Civic League Holds Portuguese American Civic League Installation

The Portuguese American Women’s Civic League held installation ceremonies Sunday evening at the Lobster Pot. Miss Elsie Medeiros served as installing officer. New officers include President Margaret B. Andrade, Vice President Mary F. Nunes, Treasurer Mary Mello, Recording Secretary Josephine Mello, Corresponding Secretary Aldina Menezes, Publicity Chair Margaret Menezes, and Program Chairman Phyllis Sousa. Enrollment urged for Bristol County women to aid defense plants

Walter J Geary announces nationwide enrollment cards for women aged 16 to 60 in Bristol County. Cards are distributed through West Barrington Warren Bristol and Barrington post offices with options to pick up at Warren or Bristol offices. The drive seeks hundreds of workers, with endorsements from local organizations and churches. Office hours extended to assist, no postage required.

Lieutenant Alder Blumer Howe Killed in Action

The town learns of the 24 year old Second Lieutenant Alder Blumer Howe U S Marine Corps son of Mr and Mrs Paul D Howe of Chestnut Hill Philadelphia and summer resident here killed in action in the Solomon Islands He was a Harvard graduate and former member of the Hasty Pudding Club and A D Club He enlisted April 1940 and had served in action at Guadalcanal since October A telegram says he will be buried at Guadalcanal with his parents and sisters noted as survivors.

Salvage Committee Approves Recreation Budget Plan

The Salvage Committee approved an $8000 recreation budget led by Hubert F Thll for a summer program in the town. Ian M. Walker presided, with Archie P. Allen named supervisor for ten weeks at a $350 salary, and $250 for new equipment and supplies. Repairs and equipment reviews will be conducted by Walker and Hill, with high school shop students assisting.
