Bristol 1976 Looking Back at Town Government Conflicts
In May voters chose between retaining the elected town administrator system, adopting a council appointed manager, or eliminating the administrator role. Forty-four percent backed the status quo while others favored the manager option or abolition. The Charter Review Commission suggested the council appointed manager. Election outcomes strengthened Democrats in town government. Anthony Agatiello won the mayoral style primary and general, with Democrats winning council and school committee seats, marking a shift toward continued Democratic control amid ongoing disputes with Augustine J Nunes.
