A Coast Guard station in 1915 Cape era recounts two surfmen McCarthy and Allen rescuing a drowning girl by word for word lifesaving procedure. The recovered woman later slapped McCarthy for presumed impropriety, ending the tale with a cautionary note on pride and memory of service.

The Colt Memorial's Class of 1935 held its first reunion Saturday night at the Midway Steak and Lobster House with 36 members present. Joseph Securo opened the program, and C. C. Cirillo served as toastmaster and headed the organizing committee assisted by several members.
Members of the Bristol Home for Aged Women express gratitude for Christmas generosity. They thank the Girl Scouts for carol singing, Perry sisters and friends, gift and card senders, efficient local postmen, First Congregational and St. Michael's Churches for flowers, Salvation Army for fruit and candy, and church guilds for gifts along with numerous named volunteers and contributors.
The Kingsmen Biglé and Drum Corps thank supporters of their annual Christmas fund drive with proceeds benefiting the uniform fund. Rehearsals for recruits are at 6 30 p.m. and regular practice at 7 30 p.m. in Scout Hall.
First Bristol Troop Boy Scouts met to plan Parents' Night for January 19. They will hold another meeting next Monday to prepare and, on January 21, plan a swim at the Pawtucket Boys Club Pool.
The Bristol Manufacturing Corp. praises the Bristol Police Department in a letter from M. C. Smith Jr. noting traffic near the plant has become orderly as the factory staff has doubled. He commends the officer in charge and thanks the department for civic service and New Year wishes.
Bristol Civil Defense opens a first aid course Monday January 5 at the United States Rubber Company Employment Office with at least 40 members signed up. Instructors are 14 volunteers from the fire department and emergency rescue squad under Fire Chief Norman Servant. The program covers standard American Red Cross first aid and plans call for two nights weekly for 13 hours. Additional CD members and plant personnel from Collins & Aikman and other local industries are expected to participate.
Wilfred F. Tetreault, head of Bristol CD since last summer, reports the town’s radio network, air spotting program and medical supplies are in place. First aid courses begin next week as 1000 volunteers prepare for emergencies. A January 12 screening at BTA Hall will show the CD test air raid film and an air defense film, with Ground Observer Corps recruitment efforts open to all but youths under 16 require adult accompaniment.
The Bristol Sewer Commission clashed over George R. Fish’s status as acting superintendent of the Bristol Sewage Disposal Plant. Chairman Campanella says an agreement was reached at the December 19 meeting to appoint Fish until spring, while Commissioner Rego insists no formal vote occurred and Fish was not named.
The Democratic Town Committee with the Democratic Women's Club will host a bridge and auction at the Midway Steak and Lobster House on January 29, 1953 at 8 00 PM. Oswald A. Thomas chairs the general committee with Miss Margaret Connors Gladys Brightman and Anthony J Massano leading the ticket committee.
The engagement of Miss Lola Ann Romano daughter of Mr and the late Frank Romano of Hope Street to Mr Ronald Raymond Camara son of Mr and Mrs Manuel Camara of 131 Arlington Avenue Warren was announced by her mother Miss Romano a Bristol High School graduate and a junior at the New England Conservatory of Music Boston.
Mr and Mrs Frank R Fojo announce the engagement of their daughter Vivian to Vincent Arcello son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Arcello. Both graduates of Bristol Senior High School and employed. Miss Fojo works at Bristol High and Arcello at Collins and Aikman Corp.
Mrs. Manuel Paiva of 71 Munroe Avenue announces the engagement of her daughter Lydia to George Mello son of Mr and Mrs Antone Mello of 191 Beach Street Fall River A June wedding is planned.
The Parents Council for Retarded Children of Rhode Island will hold its first New Year meeting on Monday January 5 at 8 o clock in the Providence Gas Co auditorium on Weybosset Street Providence. The open house meeting aims to acquaint parents with the executive board and council objectives and encourage discussion of problems.

Mrs. Dorothy Tavares of 41 Cottage Street announces the engagement of her daughter No reen to Joseph Sousa of 52 Richmond Street. The announcement was made the day before Christmas.
