U S Rubber president H E Humphreys Jr reports 1954 should bring steady demand for power wire cables and plastic products. He notes 1953 set a record for rubber use and predicts 1954 sales will dip about seven percent while tonnage remains near an all time high.

Roger W Pigeon chair of the Bristol Planning Board told the town council bids for the tax revaluation last April may be tainted by bidding riders and bid timing. He urged fairness and noted firms questioned utility bid details, while the council planned to open bids at a special session tomorrow night.
A buffet supper and dance sponsored by the Catholic Youth Council of the parish will be held in St Mary's auditorium tomorrow night from 7 30 to 11 p.m. Tickets available from members or at the door. Food donated by members. Music by records. Committee includes John Josephs Nancy Mascena Ann Cornell and Hortense D Alessio. Informal affair open to non members as well.
The town council named C Thomas Campagna to the board of canvassers succeeding John O Lawrence. Campagna, former town councilman and secretary of the town water authority, will earn 250 dollars a year and was nominated by water authority chairman Jerome M Donovan. He fills a short unexpired term and will be the sole Democrat on the board.
The Bristol Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans joined the national honor circle by surpassing its 75 member quota for 1953-54 with 83 members as of December 1. National Commander Howard W. Watts praised the chapter and noted DAV's goal to exceed 200,000 members while aiding disabled veterans and their families.
The YMCA Junior Basketball Tournament opened with four quarter-final games and runs to finals on New Year’s Day. Maisano Bros. Oil defeated County Cleaners 39 36 in OT. Wardwell Lumber crushed Buffington Drug 51 20. Andrade's Insurance beat A W DuPont 33 29. Ferris Dry Goods won over Hope Hardware 39 29. Semis: Maisano vs Wardwell at 2 pm and Andrade's vs Ferris at 3 pm.
After agreeing with Police Chief Ferrara that Ford V-8 cruisers suit police work better than six cylinders, the town council voted to buy two V-8s, bypassing lower bids. Tasca Ford Sales of Bristol bid two Tudor V-8s for 1980, while St Angleo Motors offered two Plymouth sedans for 1814 net. Budget gaps and trade-in values influenced the decision, with Andrade and Magee arguing for the V-8s’ suitability and higher trade-in value despite not being the lowest bid.
