Bristol Town Council Rejects Morrissey as Census Enumerator
At a special meeting the Bristol Town Council voted not to allow Chief of Police John H Morrissey to serve as census enumerator and truant officer for 1909. The vote followed an adjourned session after a School Committee resolution naming Morrissey for the posts. The council discussed minutes and executive session notes, with some members insisting on recording votes while others objected. Florence Sullivan and William Gardiner were elected special constables. The council also set rental rates for the Town Hall and requested liquor-licence closures on Christmas Day. An attorney was retained to defend the town in a tax case involving Robert N Turner vs George H Peck. The District Court case is scheduled for January 4.
