Naval Reserve five of Gloucester battled the Glocester Professionals at Gloucester City Hall in a 56 to 38 defeat. A fast first half ended 24 to 22 with Subday Andrews and Murphy starring in the late minutes.
The second Sat urday Evening Buffet Dance drew a full house in the Sun Parlor of the Bel vedeire Hotel. Attendees praised the buffet lunch and punch while Burke's Famous Block Island Orchestra played with encores. Prizes included Lowney's chocolates in Christmas boxes. A Christmas Carnival with Santa and a large illuminated tree is planned for next Saturday.
Chief Kelles told merchants to watch for suspicious strangers exploiting crowded stores. Report any cases immediately or detain suspects until an on duty officer at the pole station can be summoned to take them in charge.
The December session for Providence and Bristol counties met at the Bristol County Courthouse with six docket items and sixty one naturalization petitions granted. Only one case, Nerone versus Haines, was tried, resulting in a $34 750 verdict after 15 minutes.
Judge Ed ward L Leahy presided yesterday as probate cases moved forward. Anne Jove's estate petition for probate and administratrix approval was continued. Ward cases include Benjamin F Sherman guardian mortgage proposal for 1000 at 6 percent, and Mary I Bradford executor and guardian accounts continued to Jan 3. Agnese Formisano and Giuseppe Salvaggio inventories were allowed.
In Detroit mid December a son named Thomas Edward was born to Mr and Mrs Thomas A Dwyer formerly of this town and grandson to former Chief of Police and Mrs Thomas R Dwyer of Collins Street.
Sarah Russell of Newport daughter of the late Josiah Pitman and Elizabeth Manchester Pitman died in December. She would have reached her 75th year. Burial took place in North Cemetery Bristol on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
