Supreme Court sustains wartime prohibition as constitutional

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that wartime prohibition is constitutional. The decision settles the question for the era and dissolves hopes for a rapid relaxation before the holidays. Associate Justice Brandeis noted the prohibition amendment binds states and the federal government, while the cases on the Volstead Act and enforcement act were not decided. The Court rejected the wets' argument that wartime prohibition fell outside war powers, affirming continued wartime controls on food and railroads.
