The United States Rubber Co announces a flexible hydraulic hose that delivers a strong water jet capable of stripping bark from a log braided with wire. Paired with a debarking machine, it cuts a 20 foot log in 30 seconds, saving pulp mills 18 to 20 percent and 20 percent in manpower.
A Senior Commercial Club is formed at Bristol Senior High School by the Senior Commercial Class. Officers elected include President Elvira Pansa and Vice President Barbara Guarusso with Olga Viera as secretary and Margaret Dunbar as treasurer. Advisor: Miss Doris Bullock.
Local B-1240 IBEW of US Rubber Company holds a children's Christmas party Sunday at 2 PM in Independent Hall Wood Street. Joseph Baron president announces gifts, refreshments, a magician act and kids' moving pictures. Each member gets two tickets and parents may accompany children under 12. Committee led by Baron and department stewards runs the arrangements.
Pupils of St Michael's Church School will stage a Christmas pageant titled Christmas by Shorton Giles at the church on December 27, preceding the annual party. Older students plan a meeting tomorrow evening at Taclock with Mr Giles and committee members.
Manuel Pereira RY born December 25 1863 in St Michaels Avcores Islands died yesterday afternoon. He came to Bristol 52 years ago worked at National India Rubber Company and was a communicant of St Elizabeths Church. Survived by wife Adelaide Cabceiras Pereira a brother Joseph Pereira and two sisters Mary and Selina. Funeral 8:15am tomorrow from Sunsone Funeral Home 192 State Street to St Elizabeths Church for high requiem mass followed by burial at St Mary Cemetery. A clinic will be held Monday at Rockwell House with Dr Frank Merlino in charge.
Knights of Columbus Bristol Council held Italian Night with a supper and program prepared by an Italian extraction committee. John Pastore urged equality and peace, citing home environment and religion as factors in crime. The event featured music, prayers, and remarks by clergy and council leaders, with a long arranging committee and Catholic Girls' Club serving staff.
Troop Four schedules its annual Christmas party for December 20 at 7 45 p m in Scout Hall with a ten cent gift for every scout and a post program collation. Awashonks society meets to plan holiday activities and rehearse for the fall ceremonial with Walter Machado presiding. Sixteen games listed with dates in December January February across venues including Warren Cumberland Sacred Heart Central Falls Barrington So Kingstown No Providence and East Greenwich.
