Rotary Plans Radio Variety Show in Bristol

Bristol Rotarians present Rainbow with Vernon A Gray and soloists in a Monday show at Guiteras auditorium. The program features radio pieces from Station WRTY from sublime to humorous with a 35‑voice chorus directed by Mrs Theresa Donovan. Emma and Earl Rounds perform Ave Maria and more. The openers include Strike Up the Band and The Whiffenpoof Song.

Miss Nerone Discusses Christmas Art at Bristol High

Miss Margaret F. Nerone head of the Bristol Senior High School art department spoke on Madonnas in Christmas Art for the Evening school in the Visual Education room of the Andrews School. She used an opaque projector to show how artists through centuries and in modern times depicted Madonna figures. Members of Mrs. Mary McHugh’s Americanization Class attended and the Art Class exhibited this year’s pork done by students. Evening classes end December 13 for the first term with a second term starting early next year.

Council Grants Limited Parking On Hope Street

The Bristol Town Council, in response to a letter from the Bristol Business Civic Association, declares unlimited parking on the east side of Hope Street from Constitution to Washington Street from 3 p m December 14 to 24 to aid Christmas shoppers and local merchants. Paralysis Fund game features Colt High basketball vs Alumni on December 14 at Andrews Gym. junior varsity game vs Junior High follows at 7 15 p m.

Townies Set For Final Test Sunday

The Bristol Townies face the Manton Mohawks in a decisive Colonial league final at East Providence Stadium Sunday at 2 p m. Bristol aims to avenge two 1947 ties with Manton and defend last year’s crown while the Mohawks bring season-long punch, speed and a deep squad. The crowd is expected to be among the largest in playoff history as both teams showcase contrasting styles.

Bristol PTA members will view demonstrations of audio visual equipment used by the State Audio-Visual Aid Committee. A church auction drew a crowd where many sat idle while others bid. An old upright piano, claimed to be in one family for three decades, sold for ten dollars to a moving-family bidder. A vintage RCA radio with speaker fetched under five dollars as Carl Carlson planned to tinker with it.

Auctioneer Norm Lights Up Town Fair With Surprising Bids

In a lively auction led by North Benard, locals and visitors from Fall River bid against a Highlands doctor and a local nurse. Norm jokes that he was just having fun as he sold a giant framed portrait for twenty five to thirty five cents and later revealed a ten dollar surprise wrapped in Christmas paper a picture of President Truman. A second auctioneer stirred laughs by starting bids on an old hat rack with pegs.
