Bristol clergymen seek plan for weekly early dismissal

Bristol Rhode Island clergymen ask the school committee to approve a voluntary plan allowing pupils to be dismissed one hour early each week for church instruction. Parents would consent and credits could appear on report cards. A committee will confer with clergymen. no action until next meeting.

Ivy Guild Christmas Party Tonight at St Michael’s

The Ivy Guild of St Michael Episcopal Church will hold a Parish House Christmas party this evening after a 7 30 business meeting presided by president Mrs Louis H Gallo. Petition Could Push Ferry Road Water Improvements Says Chief Guevremont

Fire Chief Fred Guevremont says lack of authority blocks action to improve Ferry Road water service. He notes residents on the dead end of a six inch line suffer low daytime pressure as factories use water before four o clock. A petition to the Water Company or Town Council is seen as a path to securing a 300 gallon per minute output and a new town line along Metacom and Griswold avenues to connect with Ferry Road.

Activities Planned For Bristol Eng Relief Fund

The Bristol England Relief Fund committee met in Holmes House to plan a campaign after the Red Cross Roll Call. A rough goal near 5000 is hoped to be raised for Bristol authorities. Funds will be sent in 100 or more lots as received. Sub committee heads were named and a January benefit sale organized. A community bridge party is planned later in the month to aid the fund.

Bristol Town Faces Loss of State Aid for Schools in 1941

School Supt E Scapes announced Bristol will receive no State equalization aid next year due to lower enrollment and higher town valuation. 1939 aid was 8953 and 1940 about 6000. A March request for increased appropriations is planned as a state commission reviews allocation.

Senator Pasquale Pagnano and Representative Henry Alfred were feted by the Bristol Italo American Club at Hotel Warren for being the town’s first Italian and Portuguese extraction to win state office. Vikings to host free basketball games and dances

Beginning December 12 and every Thursday the Viking Basketball team will host free games against Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts teams. After the match, dancing will follow with Victrola records using an amplifying system in the gym. admission is free, donations accepted. The Vikings’ first opponent is Club Monarch from Woonsocket, formerly Kay Jewelers.
