Obituary: Giro Catapano Dies of Pneumonia at 17

Giro Catapano died Tuesday morning at 668 Wood Street from pneumonia after a short illness. Born in Italy, 17 years old, he arrived December 1908 and spent seven months at Rhode Island Hospital after an appendectomy. He worked briefly at National India Rubber Co. before pneumonia, leaving a sister Catherina. Funeral at St Mary’s Church, burial in St Mary Cemetery.

Tiverton council grants liquor license at Montresal House

Bristol Town Council met in December with attendance. It referred a 361.94 maintenance bill for Mrs. Burgess to Tiverton for payment or possible legal action. William McDonough's license for 88 and 48 Thames Street was approved. A safety committee was appointed to ensure street trenches are properly filled and highways left safe.

Fire Company Meetings and New Members

Regular monthly meetings of three fire companies were held Wednesday evening. One new member joined King Philip Steam Engine, which voted to host a social with refreshments for members after each meeting in winter. A committee of Amos Trudeau, Robert H. Peterson, Moses Moore and Thomas Smith was named to arrange the details. Hydraulions declined a union hall event due to lack of interest, and planned their annual supper for January 4 with Julien Close, Raymond A. Card, Walter E. Simmons, Jono Burns and Robert E. Bingham on the refreshment committee. Dreadnaught Hook Ladder Hose admitted two new members and served refreshments after business.

Second Y M C A Star Course at Opera House

The Opera House hosted the second Y M C A Star Course Tuesday evening before a good sized crowd. Willard Gorton performed dialect stories and imitations while G. Paul Smith showcased sand etching with colored sands on roign cloth and humorously portrayed Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Zachariah Spicer. Both artists displayed notable versatility and talent in their acts.
