Editorial on Town Council and Police Census Appointment

Charles S Cummings, town council president, issues a public statement denying a report about discussing illegal liquor sales with dealers and defending the council's stance on Chief Morrissey’s roles as truant officer and census enumerator. He argues against appointing the chief to school duties, cites conflict of duties, and favors allowing only if authorized. A Bristol businessman criticizes the approach, urging merit over patronage and noting Morrissey’s effective census work. The piece urges applying sound business principles to town jobs and questions charitable or political favoritism in appointments.
