The Flying Doctor program, born in 1928, uses pedal radios and aircraft to deliver free medical care across thousands of miles of barren Australian outback. A child in Dunbar survived a diabetic coma after a doctor’s expedition crossed floods. the system also enables telephones, telegrams, and food drops, with funds from government and private gifts.

Veterans Memorial Park adds trees for war dead memory

Joseph C Kinder tree warden plants sixty three trees for World War II victims and two for the Korean Conflict at Veterans Memorial Park. Alberto Russo notes plans to replace a large Linden. The project features Norway maples willows Carolina poplars and sweetgum with additional changes planned.

Army Drops Plans for 16 New Houses at Base

The U S Army appears to have halted plans to build 16 single family homes for married servicemen at the guided installation in this town. The houses were to sit on lots of 8 000 square feet in size.

Massa To Attend Special Course At New Brittan

Hector Massa, boys’ physical director at the YMCA, will leave Sunday for a week long refresher course in physical education at New Brittan. Conn Directors from the eastern seaboard will attend. The course will be run by Springfield College and cover supervision teaching and problems of physical directors. Nearby land was zoned for 20,000 square foot house lots adjacent to the Nike launcher site at the Ferry. The Army housing plan was not confirmed, but three year leases for single family homes are being signed. Seven homes leased, nine awaiting approval.

Andrew and Joseph Del Toro announce Del's Pride potato chips will operate from 23 Catherine Street Bristol. They have run a Woonsocket plant and move aims to boost hometown employment especially for high school students with part time after school work. Town approves vault expansion plans at Burnside Building

Town Clerk Anthony J. Dennis Jr. gains council approval to pursue vault extension on the Burnside Memorial Building site. Architect Wallis E. Howe reportedly has preliminary plans. $14,278 in funds from unexpended World War II balances are available for the project amid concerns over space and fire protection for vital records.

Town Confronts New Water Bills At Council Meeting

Town officials flagged charges from the Bristol County Water Company after new rates took effect September 1. Fire Companies Plan Dinners For January Meetings

Regatta shifts from Bristol Harbor to East Greenwich next season

The Narragansett Bay Yachting Association plans to formalize on Monday night that East Greenwich will host a three day regatta next season, moving Bristol Harbor’s annual race week elsewhere. Bristol admirers lament the change as East Greenwich, Newport and Bristol rotate the event. The Bristol regatta is tentatively set for July 26, with quahog dredging and local boating activity continuing along the coast.
